caught les miserables today at the shanghai grand theatre. it was fantastic! the plot was very touching, and the way the music was orchestrated was world-class man! im going to buy the cd. *grin* i remembered watching the musical in singapore a long time ago, when i was in secondary school. realized i really dont remember much, and this feels like the first time im watching. very good very good oh, im wearing the les mis t-shirt to bed tonight! eh, bought the programme, t-shirt and a commemorative postcard album. spent a lot of money (!!!) after the musical, the four of us (ying soon, chung eng, eng sheng and me) went to crossroads for dinner. crossroads is a restaurant selling singapore food, and prices are exorbitant! a plain roti prata costs about s$1 and a plate of char kway teow costs about s$7. the greatest joke must be a small plate of fried fish cake selling for s$3.50. erm, no, greatest joke is, we actually ordered that little plate of fish cake. *gosh!* but i do miss singapore food, although they dont exactly taste authentic. we shared char kway teow, nasi goreng, satay, mee siam, fried hokkien mee, curry puff and fish cake. the feeling was heavenly man, definitely better than that s$1,000 meal at zen. oh, i havent told you, we had dinner with the president of capitaland (yes, the highest ranking guy of the group), the singapore ceo, the china ceo, and a few scarily big shots and their wives. had a hell of a time trying to digest the food, while watching my 2 housemates compete in impressing the bosses! guys! *shakes head* anyway, watched the first half of korea vs turkey at crossroads, and caught the rest on tv mobile and at home. i thought it was a pretty exciting game, especially when the goals came like rain in the first few minutes. (ok, exaggerating, but the goals were really unexpected.) it was very sad how koreas defence gone off-form today, they were usually very tight! but i found it very admirable how the koreans really piah all the way. and turkeys goalkeeper must be one of the best around, dont you think? one thing about watching soccer in china, the commentators really suck big time! when we watch the telecast on tv, the commentators will talk like the way we do, instead of providing useful information about the players and the game. for example, we will sometimes comment, wah, cok up ah! they will also say such things in their commentary, but of course, in proper chinese language. whichever team is losing will surely kena condemned by the commentators, and all sorts of mocking remarks will come out. there are countless times when they themselves dunno whats going on on the field, and they will even ask each other, who was given that yellow card? what was that whistle for? hiyo, lousy. weird thing is, they toned down the background noise in the stadium, so while my friends in singapore can clearly hear the korean songs or japanese cheers, i hear nothing unless i tune the tv volume up very very high. the commentators are often more interested in watching the game than commenting, hence there is always large blocks of silence when the game is going on. sian leh! lousy commentators really spoil the game sometimes. here, all the soccer players names are translated to chinese, so while direct translation helps me know when they are talking about owen and ronaldo, nakata and onos names dont ring a bell because chinese translation of japanese names are totally different from english pronunciation. sigh! therefore, no surprise, i mute the tv everytime im watching soccer alone. anyway, tomorrows the final game of the finals! brazil vs germany. my bet is on brazil. hmm, but brazils defence is quite weak hope that big-tooth guy (the one who got suspended for the last match) can set up a few good ones. ronaldinho or something, think he got a funny kampong face. ill be watching the game at ching lings place! keke she has kindly invited us to her place for dinner. shell be cooking curry! *drools* oh, lets not talk about food, stomachs growling already im meeting noelle tomorrow morning (erm, today?), since shes flying back in the afternoon. and next week will be my turn to fly! hurray!!!! yeah yeah yeah! :D i miss the smell of home and my family!
